Umbra

Lead your fleet through a living war among the stars.

How it plays

One fighter, a whole war

The war never waits for you. Every star belongs to someone: yours burn blue, your rivals' orange. Fly your fighter into it, gather your ships, and take the stars one by one.

  • Gather

Fly past your blue stars and their ships rally to you. Hundreds of them follow in your wake on tails of light, and bank as you bank.

  • Strike

Dive at a rival star and your fleet strikes with you, into the swarm that guards it. Bring more ships than it holds, and it turns blue.

  • Defend

Your rivals strike back at the stars you hold, led by aces. Warp to the strike and shoot its aces down: each one takes its wing out of the war.

Your fleet

Hundreds of ships at your back

Your ships fly where you fly and dive where you dive. Then the warp throws you and all of them kilometres across the war in a heartbeat, the stars streaking past.

The player's fighter leads streaks of blue ships toward an orange star wearing a ring city, its swarm glowing round it.

A living war

Totality's war, all around you

Thousands of ships stream between the stars, and stars change hands whether you're there or not. The war of Totality, its rules and its rivals' minds, now seen from a fighter's cockpit.

Orange and blue stars, each in a cloud of its own ships, round a black hole, with the player's fighter between them.

Take a star

Dive into the swarm

Every star a side holds wears a ring city, a deck built for each level as its ships feed it. Lead the strike that brings it down, and watch your own city rise round the star.

The screen tells you how many ships a star takes to win, before you dive.

The aces

Catch them, then finish them

An ace leads every strike at your stars, and turns to fight you when you come close. Your fighter carries what it takes.

  • The warp

Jump kilometres across the war with your whole fleet, or lock onto an ace and jump straight to it. Every strike's alarm and every ace you down charge it.

  • The rocket

Fire it, and time slows to a third while the camera rides it. Steer it into an ace: one is all it takes.

  • Eyes everywhere

A map of the whole war, an arrow to every ace, and a wide view that pulls back to show the space round you and your fleet.

Living stars

The universe fights back

Every star is a danger as well as a prize. You see and hear each one before it hurts.

  • SunsScorch a ship that hugs them, and burn up any that touch them.
  • Blue giantsReach further and burn hotter, and make ships fast for whoever holds them.
  • Red dwarfsSmall, tough and slow to build: a wall to break or to go round.
  • Twin starsTwo suns circling each other, both worth holding.
  • PulsarsSweep their beams round on a beat. Don't get caught in one.
  • Black holesPull you in, fling you out faster the closer you dare, and tear apart whatever crosses the edge. One of them wanders.

Campaign

Twelve wars in three acts

Named for an eclipse as it deepens. A short guided war teaches you as you fly, then each war brings one new thing, and the rivals grow sharper and more of them fight at once, until the last act is chaos.

Three medals a war

Win it, win it under par, and win it without being shot down. Your best time on every war, and 36 medals to earn.

Uncharted

Once the first war is won, a new war on a fresh map, any time you like.

Every rival has a character. The Spreader races you for every free star, the Raider strikes early and often, the Builder stacks up for one huge strike, and the Opportunist pounces on the star you leave empty.

Feel

Made to feel alive

Sound, light and touch, made with the same care as the flying.

  • Music made as you play

Totality's four soundtracks, composed live on your iPhone and rising with the fight. Best with headphones.

    • Warm PulseWarm pads over a soft heartbeat
    • DriftSlow and dreamy, notes falling like stars
    • TideA rolling bass in a swaying rhythm
    • NightfallLow and mysterious, a distant drum
  • Sixteen painted skies

A new sky for every war, painted all the way round you: galaxy bands, dust lanes and glowing gas. Black holes bend the starlight behind them.

  • Felt in your hand

Every hit, every kill, the warp's jump and the rocket's burst, felt as well as heard. Turn it off in Settings, if you like.

Your way

Play it your way

  • Made for iPhone

Held wide: one thumb steers, the other fires, boosts and warps. Drag on the right to look round your ship.

Closed, it plays beside the camera strip. Open it upright, and the flight fills the top while a cockpit lies below the fold: the stick, the war's map and the gauges.

  • Game controllers

Fly with a controller if you have one: the left stick flies, the right looks round your ship.

  • Your feel

Steering Gentle, Standard or Sharp, up and down the way you like them, and rivals Relaxed, Standard or Challenging.

  • Yours alone

No ads, no in-app purchases and no tracking. It collects no data at all: see the privacy policy.

  • Plays offline
